Corvette Road Trip
Traveling America's Roads in America's Sports Car

imagesPossibly the single most famous Corvette road trip film is the TV series Route 66. The show first aired on TV in 1960. The show starred Martin Milner and George Maharis as Tod Stiles and Buz Murdock. Tod and Buz traveled across the country in a Corvette that Tod inherited after the death of his father.

Every week for 4 season we would tune in to watch Tod and Buz work odd jobs and help in some way the people they met in their travels. Tod was the clean cut all-American boy and Buz was more of a working-class street brawler. Viewing the shows today, the appearance of Tod and Buz is that both were very upstanding, well dresses and polite.

Each new season has Tod and Buz in a new Corvette. First it was a 1960, followed by a ’61, 62 and in the last season a ’63 Sting Ray. The show was sponsored by General Motors, who provided the cars for the show.

An interesting production note is that Route 66 was shot entirely on location, but seldom on Route 66. The complete series is currently available on DVD.
